Dear members and colleagues,

We are pleased to present the first publication of the Serbian Pediatric Respiratory Society entitled "Practical approach to non-invasive ventilation - a manual for parents".

Long-term clinical experience and continuous improvement of several generations of doctors of the Department of Pulmonology of the Institute for the Health Care of Mothers and Children of Serbia "Dr. Vukan Čupić" in reference centers abroad, has led to a significant improvement in the standard of care for children in whom, due to the underlying disease, non-invasive treatment is used as one of the therapeutic modalities. ventilation.

As the cooperation of parents is of immense importance for the final success of a complex treatment modality such as long-term mechanical ventilation, special attention was paid to their education.

The handbook before us represents the first step towards filling the gap that exists in the field of professional publications dedicated to parents and persons involved in the immediate care of children on long-term non-invasive ventilation.

Courtesy of our long-time friends and mentors from the Department for Examination of Sleep Breathing Disorders and Non-Invasive Ventilation of the Necker Clinic in Paris, the original text of the manual has been translated into Serbian.

With the hope that the manual will be of use to all for whom it is intended, the translators and editors of the Serbian language edition are open and grateful in advance for suggestions that will further improve the care of children who need long-term respiratory support at home.
